Inflation

The country is in a fine old mess, I'm sat here thinking am I the only one who knows the answer to this debt crisis? Could it be so simple? Well here is my stab at it

1. Cross-cancellation of world debts - this would wipe out around 62% of all debt. In effect saying.. if we owe china £10 and they owe us £10 we both write it off.

2. Reduce fuel tax. When there is 60p+ per litre taxed on fuel is there any wonder that food costs, and consumer costs have gone up? Reduce this to 20p a litre and small business will be able to function once again. Incredible how a 100 year old haulage firm in London, last year had to sell up, purely because the fuel costs made it impossible to run.  Surely the knock on effect of rising fuel costs, is an increase in the price of goods sold in shops. Lowering the cost of fuel would mean more people would buy it, more businesses would be profitable, more tax would be paid.

3. Toll Roads/Bridges. This one is more for the people of Humberside. The Humber Bridge cost £10+million to build in 1981 and was supposed to be paid for by a toll. 30 years on the Humber Bridge Board owes more than £333+million all this with an average crossing fee of £3 for the 120,000 vehicles that use it.. every week!

4. Nationalise one of the energy companies or create a national energy company, which can offer cheaper energy which comes from renewable sources.

5. Fix a ratio between the highest earned amount and the lowest in the country.  20:1 or something.. should footballers, for example, be earning more than the Prime Minister?

6. Give Richard Branson the National Lottery licence and cap the maximum you can win to £1million. Make more people millionaires.

7. Don't invest in a high speed rail link!

8. Don't trade arms with other countries. In fact don't make or sell arms at all.

9. Reduce the number of servicemen in the armed forces.

10. Make all civil servants accountable for their expenses.

11. Invest heavily in the Arts, design, fashion, graphics.

12. Investigate all Tax evasion and avoidance, more than the 2% which is currently allowed to be investigated my HMRC!

13. Keep the 50p tax rate for higher tax earners

14. State Pension, bus passes, fuel allowance, TV licence, child benefit should all be means tested. A millionaire who retires should not be able to claim a state pension, because they have enough money already, State pensions should be available only to those who are not wealthy. Same for child benefit, a couple who earn over 50k a year don't need a few hundred pounds child care a year. They are able to manage without.  Winter fuel allowance being sent to a millionaire is insulting.

I can't think of any more right now..
