Re-boot

Seems almost everywhere I turn these days there is a re-boot.  I have decided to reboot this blog too.  A few years ago Star Trek was "re-booted",  "Star Wars" before that was rebooted, Starburst (ex-opal fruits)  - rebooted, Take That - rebooted (minus Robbie and then with Robbie) Queen rebooted without Freddy, and Even The Beatles were rebooted with the Ghost of John. Of course it used to be called "remake" "reform" "rebrand" until the PC terminology got into our everyday language.

This got me thinking about how much of our current language has been rebooted by technology. I made a short list or rebooted words. Feel free to add to it.

Defrag
An ex girlfriend of mine regularly said she had to defrag her hair in a morning.

Crashed
Not just something that happens in a car.

Address
Traditionally a physical place, abode, but seems to now mean web address more than home.

Home
Not the place where you live, but your home page.

Text
Words on a page? No a text based mobile phone message. Text, texted, txt.

Burn
Copying a CD or DVD. Not setting fire to something..

Rip
Extracting content from a CD/DVD and saving to hard drive, not tearing something..

Hard Drive
A mass storage device.  Not a long exhaustive journey.

Virus
A small computer program designed to corrupt other computer programs.. not a disease.

Monitor
No longer observing, but observed.  A display/screen.

Screen
A partition wall made for fabric/wood usually decorated with a pattern.  Although now it refers to a computer display.

Display
Object or objects presented in a certain way to signify a meaning.  Currently means computer monitor/display/screen.

Tower
Not just a large construction, but a base unit for a computer.

Chips
cut wedges of potato deep fried. OR A small piece of semiconducting material (usually silicon) on which an integrated circuit is embedded.

Hub
A central base of operations OR a common connection point for devices in a network

Dump
The act of copying raw data from one place to another with little or no formatting for readability. OR slang
for defecating...

Do I really need to go there with Floppy?
